GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION |
MAIN PURPOSE: The MEAL Assistant, under the MEAL Officer’s supervision, will enhance project accountability and quality. This role involves refining MEAL tools, conducting precise monitoring and evaluation, and ensuring data-driven program decisions. In health, and nutrition, the Assistant will manage data entry, support database design, and contribute to communication materials. Additional tasks include quality data assurance, stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and innovative MEAL process improvements. |
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES |
- Participate in the creation and ongoing refinement of MEAL tools such as the Logframe MEAL Plan, MEAL Action Plan, Indicator Performance Tracking Table, and Feedback Mechanisms Strategy.
- Carry out monitoring and evaluation activities in line with the strategies set out in the MEAL plans, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project objectives.
- Assist in the collection, analysis, and reporting of data, applying advanced analytical methods to support program decision-making.
- Support the implementation of assessments and surveys to provide insights for program improvement and to gather stakeholder feedback.
- Collaborate with program teams to monitor progress and achieve targets, using the Indicator Performance Tracking Table for guidance.
- Engage in knowledge sharing and learning activities to promote a culture of continuous improvement and education.
- Provide administrative support for MEAL-related tasks, focusing on operations at targeted sites.
- Work with the Data Entry team to ensure accurate and timely data entry into the Health Cluster’s DHIS and Nutrition Cluster Database.
- Help design and maintain specialized databases for primary and secondary healthcare services, meeting the program’s needs and maintaining data integrity.
- Contribute to the creation of visibility materials and documentation for health, nutrition, and protection activities, following the Communication Department’s guidelines.
- Keep detailed records of community volunteer activities to enhance programs in health, nutrition, and WASH awareness.
- Conduct field visits to evaluate service quality and disseminate awareness as per the Field Visits Plan.
- Assist in preparing reports on monitoring and evaluation activities and success stories in collaboration with the communication department.
- Participate in MEAL Department meetings, trainings, and workshops, and be open to involvement in other departmental activities.
- Ensure data quality by reviewing for accuracy and addressing discrepancies in collaboration with the Data Management Team.
- Engage stakeholders for feedback to refine MEAL strategies and tools.
- Take part in capacity-building initiatives to enhance staff and volunteer data management skills.
- Propose and implement innovative solutions to improve MEAL processes and data utilization.
- Perform additional tasks as directed by the MEAL hierarchy, including the MEAL Officer, Senior MEAL Officer, or MEAL Manager.
- Adapt to irregular working hours under emergency conditions.

Required Qualifications and Skills: |
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required.
- Minimum 2 years of previous experience in humanitarian work.
- Experience in Health, Nutrition, and WASH interventions, as well as Sphere and other humanitarian standards.
- Previous experience with Data entry, data cleaning and data analysis using KOBO, Ms. Excel and SPSS.
- Excellent communication skills in both English and Arabic; ability to communicate strategically under pressure.
- Excellent writing skills – ability to develop high quality reports and accurately analyze M&E data.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Self-motivated, results-driven and excellent sense of organization.
- Ability to work independently and respond to feedback in a timely and professional manner.
- Proficient in computer applications, especially with Word and Excel, PowerPoint a plus.
- Experience in communicating in a professional way with donors and other stakeholders in a politically and culturally sensitive environment.
- Experience working in different cultural work environments.
