JOB TITLE : Livelihoods Project team leader

LOCATION: Sa’ada ( Al Safra – Razih ) districts
DURATION: Temporary contract for three months
ABOUT Building Foundation for Development:
BFD is a non-governmental and non-profit Yemeni organization, that was established in 2014. BFD is a leading humanitarian-based and development-oriented organization, which over the years extended its coverage to several governorates, with a mission of working in a humane and transparent manner for the vulnerable groups in society and the affected groups through the implementation of sustainable development and relief programs of the highest quality. Responding to all areas of humanitarian sectors, BFD aspires to provide an integrated humanitarian and development response to conflict-affected areas through a professional, neutral, transparent approach, and through adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
MAIN PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and Project Officer, he will be the team leader (crop production, beekeeping) for the project through technical support in implementing the analysis and development of value chains, market linkages and private sector participation, preparing training curricula, providing consultations for smallholder value chains (crop production – Beekeeping).
Responsibilities:
GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordination with all local authorities’ offices and related entities.
- Mobilizing and educating the target community and assessing the needs of value chains (farmers, beekeeping).
- Planning and implementing agricultural activities related to the project.
- Assessing the needs in the targeted communities and efficiently and effectively implementing agricultural activities to achieve the project’s goal.
- Effectively communicating with the project supervisor regarding all project implementation-related matters.
- Analyzing the agricultural and marketing value chain and quality management for (crop production, beekeeping, agricultural processing).
- Conducting an assessment of the value chain to identify gaps and make recommendations on how to improve the selected value chains.
- Identifying community assets that align with agricultural livelihood activities.
- Working with BFD technical teams to clearly identify the value chain for beneficiaries, in line with the economic practices of the targeted community, including key stakeholders, product flows, infrastructure facilities, and financial institutions.
- Holding participatory meetings with targeted communities to identify their issues, solutions, characteristics, and develop Community Participation Plans as a basis for value chain development.
- Conducting economic and commercial feasibility studies for various value chain institutions in the targeted areas.
- Providing support and technical guidance for data collection and necessary information to effectively monitor and evaluate activities related to livelihood diversification, value chain, and marketing.
- Strengthening links and competitiveness of market systems for targeted value chain products.
- Based on a field study, approaches and community needs for value chains in the targeted areas are identified.
- Proposing activities to develop capacities in agricultural business and value chain areas, and marketing development.
- Providing sustainable knowledge of the value chain.
- Forming community committees CCs and training them.
- Monitoring and implementing the beneficiary identification process.
- Monitoring and overseeing the distribution of grants and tools to beneficiaries.
- Follow-up and supervision in using the grants in accordance with the approved work plan.
- Providing consultations to farmers in order to solve agricultural problems and providing the best practices in agricultural production.
- Assist to identify methods to improve productivity, such as improving irrigation, fertilization, or feeding methods.
- Providing consultations to beekeeping breeders to solve the problems they face in beekeeping and best practices in honey production and its products.
- Conducting field visits to project sites and providing technical advice and guidance.
- Participating in the preparation of advisory bulletins and guidelines in collaboration with team members.
- Contributing to the development of training materials.
- Providing technical advice in the field of agricultural production, beekeeping.
- Supervising and following up the rehabilitation activities for farms and beekeeping, including (controlling the quality of outputs, following up on quantities, documenting work, and other related tasks) according to the project mechanism.
- Ensure that all documents related to the above tasks are complete and available.
- Other tasks within the qualifications of the job title as required at work.
- Weekly periodic field visits to all sites in order to follow up on the project activities implementation and mitigate challenges within the field.
- Assistance in identifying methods to improve the productivity of agricultural crops at the lowest costs.
- Assistance in identifying ways to improve the productivity of beekeeping and its products at the lowest costs.
- Improving the field practices of the target value chain groups.
- Follow-up and supervision of the field activities implementation for the value chains of smallholders.
- Supervising the implementation of training activities.
- Assessing the needs in the targeted communities and efficiently and effectively implementing agricultural activities to achieve the project’s goal.
- Monitoring the field team members’ work related to project data and documentation management.
- Providing daily progress reports to the project supervisor.
- Prepare progress reports and success stories as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture (agricultural production & beekeeping).
- Knowledge in agriculture, beekeeping, and livelihoods.
- Experience (three years) working in the agricultural sector – experience in humanitarian and development organizations (NGOs or INGO) is preferred.
- Previous experience in supervision in the field of agricultural production and beekeeping and livelihoods.
- Previous experience leading a team.
- Previous experience in similar projects.
- Excellent in communication skills in both English and Arabic; ability to communicate strategically under pressure
- Self-motivated, results-driven and excellent sense of organization
- Excellent writer – ability to develop high quality reports and accurately analyze M&E data
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions quickly and independently
- Extremely flexible, and have the ability to cope with stressful situations.
- Ability to relate to and effectively motivate staff
- Ability to represent the Foundation in high level meetings with donors and local government
- Proficient in computer applications, especially with Word and Excel, PowerPoint a plus.
Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS): The role holder is required to carry out the duties in adherence to the Core Humanitarian Standards, the values and principles outlined in BFD’s policies such as Code of Conduct, Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, Child Safeguarding, Anti Workplace Harassment, Fiscal Integrity, Anti-Retaliation and other internal policies and guidelines.
