Nayf Al-Shamhani, a 25-year-old father, was displaced from his home in the Al-Haimah district of Sana’a governorate, along with his wife and four children, due to escalating conflict in 2021. Seeking refuge in an IDP site called Sana’a in Marib governorate, they faced further challenges when conflict forced them to flee to the As Swayda IDP site in Marib city, leaving behind their belongings, including clothes.
The hardships endured by Nayf’s young children during these displacements were more painful to him than the loss of his eye in the conflict. He expressed his fear, saying, “I was completely terrified of losing my children, just as I lost one of my eyes.” Registered by community committees (CCs) and verified by Building Foundation for Development’s (BFD) verification team, Nayf and his family became eligible for assistance through the Cash for Work (CfW) program.
Participating actively in CfW activities, particularly in the rehabilitation of schools and main roads, Nayf received cash assistance for three rounds. This aid enabled him to purchase essential items for a minimal food basket (MFB) to provide for his family’s nourishment. Despite the challenges, Nayf and his family demonstrated remarkable resilience, expressing gratitude for the timely assistance provided through the CfW program. He shared his genuine happiness, stating, “I’m genuinely happy to be part of making As Swayda IDP site a better place for our children.”
“Nayf’s journey reflects resilience amidst adversity, highlighting the importance of timely assistance in rebuilding lives and communities.”
