From Adversity to Prosperity: Empowering Livelihoods in Rural Yemen

Residing in the remote mountain village of Bani A’idh in Amran governorate, Nanny faced formidable challenges after her family had to sell their once-thriving livestock following her husband’s car accident. Left without a secure barn or means of livelihood, they relocated to Bayt Abu Hajjar, where they received a modest room. Despite owning a few sheep, Nanny struggled to ensure their safety and protect them from dangers and theft, perpetuating anxiety and instability.

Hope emerged for Nanny when she became a beneficiary of the Resilience and Livelihood project, implemented by Building Foundation for Development (BFD) in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP). Through this activity, she received training on constructing an animal barn and collaborated with fellow villagers to build it. Essential building materials, windows, and animal feed provided by the project brought relief and security, enabling increased productivity and income, and positively impacting her children’s lives.

Nanny’s journey from adversity to prosperity demonstrates the transformative impact of development projects and the resilience needed to overcome challenges. Her story underscores the importance of investing in livelihood improvement to build prosperous and resilient communities. Through determination and support, Nanny achieved stability and a better future for her family, embodying the power of perseverance in the face of hardship.

“Nanny’s journey illustrates the transformative power of resilience and the importance of investing in livelihood improvement for building prosperous communities.”
